Kevin Lang and the Liberal Democrats want a fairer deal for pensioners

The Lib Dems are campaigning for a better deal for pensioners. We want to transform Britain's inadequate and complex state pensions system, with the introduction of a universal Citizen's Pension.

A pension linked to earnings

The Liberal Democrats would pay for these reforms by making tough choices on the pension age and reform of public sector pensions. Specifically:

The Liberal Democrats also want to boost private savings, with all employees being automatically enrolled in non-state pensions, with a right to opt out.

Lib Dem Westminster candidate for Edinburgh North & Leith Kevin Lang said,

"After a lifetime of contribution to their country, our pensioners deserve a better deal. Too many pensioners in Edinburgh North & Leith still live in poverty, forced onto means tested benefits by this Labour Government. The Liberal Democrats would boost the state pension and link the pension with earnings, a link broken by the Tories."
