Charles Kennedy came to Edinburgh North & Leith to back Kevin Lang's campaign

Charles Kennedy, the popular former leader of the Liberal Democrats, today visited Edinburgh North & Leith to back Kevin Lang's campaign to be our new local MP.

Charles and Kevin visited the newly refurbished Citadel Youth Centre in Leith, which was re-opened two weeks ago. The building is the first to be completed as part of the £9 million Leith Townscape Heritage Initiative.

A total of £830,000 was spent refurbishing the B-listed building, which has been closed for a year. Art, drama and social spaces have been improved, a new entrance complete with disabled access has been built while changing facilities have been upgraded. External repairs have been made to the stonework, roof and guttering, while the outside area has been landscaped.

Charles Kennedy and Kevin Lang were given a tour of the new facility and listened to staff and young people about the great new facilities that are available and work being carried out.

Charles Kennedy said, "Kevin Lang stands a real chance of winning Edinburgh North & Leith at the next General Election. He is an excellent candidate and would make a first class Member of Parliament for this area. I was pleased to be able to come down and help his campaign."

Kevin Lang added, "It is great to welcome Charles to Edinburgh North & Leith and to show him around the fantastic new Citadel Youth Centre. It was wonderful to hear from coordinator Willy Barr and other staff, as well from some of the youth workers themselves, who do so much excellent work to help young people in the local area."
