Kevin Lang and the local Liberal Democrats have welcomed the results of a new survey naming Edinburgh as the best place to live in the whole of the UK.

The poll was carried out by Yougov and asked over 10,000 people to name the most desirable city in Britain, with scores given on such measures as atmosphere, transport and culture.

Edinburgh beat all other cities, with York and London in second and third place.

Local parliamentary candidate Kevin Lang said, "Having been born and brought up in Edinburgh and having lived almost all of my life in the Capital, I know that ours is truly magnificent city.

"Yes, we have problems needing addressed and challenges needing faced. However, I know the pride that local people have in Edinburgh, it's wonderful architecture and its rich history.

"At this time of the year during the Edinburgh Festival, it is great to see so many people coming from across the world to see and experience what Edinburgh has to offer, even during the global economic downturn."
