Council candidate Sanne and Scottish Lib Dem leader Tavish Scott join local school children as part of the Generation Green project.

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott visited the Forth ward today to back Sanne's campaign to win the upcoming council by-election on November 6th. Sanne and Tavish visited the Scottish Gas headquarters in Granton to learn more about energy efficiency.

They were joined on the visit by local school children, who raced hydrogen powered toy cars and looked at alternative types of energy as part of Scottish Gas' Generation Green schools project. Schools in Forth ward will be among the first in the UK to benefit from this innovative teaching scheme, which encourages kids and communities to become more energy efficient.

They also spoke with staff who take calls from Scottish Gas customers, hearing first hand about some of the problems ordinary people are facing managing their energy bills and the solutions being offered for those struggling to keep warm during the winter.

Tavish said, "It was great to be able to join Sanne's local campaign today. I know she has put the rising cost of living at the very heart of her campaign, with many people in the Forth ward struggling with rising housing costs, higher food prices and rocketing energy bills.

"That is why is was so useful to be able to hear first hand about how one of the biggest energy companies is helping customers with rising costs and see the innovative ways in which young people people are being taught of the importance of energy efficiency."

Sanne added, "Scottish Gas is a major local employer with 25% of its staff at its Granton HQ living locally. I was delighted to be able to meet with staff to discuss how they are helping customers in Forth and across the country with reducing their energy consumption and their bills."
