"We'll be a hard working local team for Edinburgh North & Leith" pledge Alex and Kevin10.11.42pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 19th Jun 2008
Local parliamentary candidates Alex Cole-Hamilton and Kevin Lang have promised to work together to 'stand up and speak out' for the people of Edinburgh North & Leith and provide a positive and principled alternative to Labour. Leith resident, Alex Cole-Hamilton was selected as the Liberal Democrat Scottish Parliamentary candidate for Edinburgh North & Leith last week. He joins Kevin Lang, who was selected as the local Lib Dem candidate at the next Westminster General Election two years ago and lives at the Granton Waterfront. Living locally, both Alex and Kevin understand local problems because they have to live with them too. Kevin Lang said, "I am delighted that Alex has been selected as the Scottish Parliament candidate for Edinburgh North & Leith. I have known Alex for many years and I know he will be a first class MSP for the local area and be a champion for Edinburgh North & Leith in the Scottish Parliament. Together, we can provide our community with a hard working, local team, that will stand up and speak out on behalf of local people." Alex Cole-Hamilton added, "Labour have taken Edinburgh North & Leith for granted for too long. Local people feel fed up and let down by Labour and are turning to the Liberal Democrats as the positive alternative. I am now looking forward to campaigning with Kevin on the issues that matter to local people such as the reducing the cost of living, tackling crime, protecting our environment and improving local health services." The Liberal Democrats came second to Labour at the Scottish Parliament and Westminster elections in Edinburgh North & Leith. Kevin and Alex are now the only serious challengers to Labour in the local area. The SNP and Conservatives compete for third and fourth place and cannot possibly win. Every vote for those parties only helps Labour win.
