Meadowbank Stadium - Cllr Louise Lang sets the record straight12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 30th May 2008
At the recent budget meeting of the council, the Liberal Democrats fulfilled their promise to keep sporting facilities at Meadowbank by committing £6m towards the project.
Following this, it was agreed to sell off some of the land to help make up the shortfall in funding. All the money raised from the land sale will go directly to building a new facility which will include the hugely popular running track. Local Liberal Democrat councillor, Louise Lang who fought hard to save Meadowbank Stadium said, "I am delighted that the promise I made during the last council elections has been fulfilled. It would have been great if the council had not had to sell any land. However, without this sale, it would simply not be possible to provide the good facilities for local people. "I believe people in North Edinburgh deserve top quality sporting facilities at Meadowbank and I am committed to working hard to ensure the money raised from the land sale goes to directly towards these new facilities."
