Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Kevin Lang wants to see the tram works on Constitution Street completed as quickly as possible.

The works on Constitution Street to divert utilities to make way for the return of trams to Edinburgh is expected to be complete by the end of September.

These works have required Constitution Street to be closed in sections between Duke Street and Queen Charlotte Street junctions. The works have also required for a number of temporary parking restrictions as well as some bus diversions.

Local Liberal Democrat councillor for Leith, Marjorie Thomas said, "Such major works were always going to cause some disruption. However, it is important that work is completed as quickly as possible so that disruption is kept to a minimum. Of course shops on Constitution Street and Leith Walk continue to remain open for business as normal and it is important for local people to continue to support these businesses."

Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Kevin Lang added, "It is encouraging to see good progress being made on these works in the Leith area. There is no question now that trams will be returning to Edinburgh and I hope the opening of Line 1 will mark the start of a more significant tram network to serve Leith and the North of Edinburgh. With all the new housing development going on, the local population in our part of the city is going to grow considerably. Without some form of mass transportation system, local roads will simply become gridlocked. That is why an efficient, reliable and affordable tram service is so important."
