Liberal Democrats in Edinburgh North & Leith have welcomed the news that the SNP Government have performed a u-turn and agreed to provide funding for the Edinburgh trams, following an overwhelming vote in by MSPs in favour of the project.

Parliamentary spokesman, Kevin Lang said, "Trams are going to be good for Edinburgh North & Leith and good for the city as a whole. Locally, they will prove vital in the long term development of the Edinburgh Waterfront, attracting new people into the area to live and work. By integrating the tram with bus services, they will also provide people with a better, quicker public transport service.

"It is now important for work to progress within the timescales and budget set out. With trams in place, Edinburgh will be equipped with a modern, clean, efficient transport system, fit for Scotland's capital city. This will make a huge difference in encouraging more people out of their cars, cutting congestion and reducing pollution."
