Liberal Democrats Mike Crockart and Charles Dundas has promised to fight to protect the character of Edinburgh's historic New Town.

Charles Dundas said, "The New Town is a beautiful and historic part of Edinburgh. We need to oppose developments which risk spoiling the character and charm of the area. If elected, I will keep a close eye on any planning applications and make sure local people are consulted properly.

But that does not mean the council should do nothing. It is amazing that after years of a Labour-controlled council, so much remains to be done in the New Town. Local residents need to see value for the council tax they pay. Open spaces, roads, pavements, lighting are just a few of the services that need upgrading.

"As the New Town's local councillor, I will fight to get a fairer deal for people in the New Town."
