Campaigning for a fairer Britain and a change in Edinburgh North and Leith by electing Kevin Lang

THANK YOU - Liberal Democrats secure best ever result in Edinburgh North & Leith

The Liberal Democrats in Edinburgh North & Leith are celebrating after winning their highest ever number of votes and best ever share of the vote in Edinburgh North & Leith.

Local Liberal Democrat Kevin Lang further closed the gap on Labour, winning over 16,000 votes, the highest number of votes ever recorded for the Lib Dems in Edinburgh North & Leith.

Labour won with 17,740 votes followed by the Liberal Democrats on 16,016. As expected, the Conservatives were a poor and distant third on 7,079 and the SNP on just 4,568.

Kevin Lang said, "I want to sincerely thank all of those who voted for me in the election, many whom I know voted Liberal Democrat for the first time. It is truly humbling that so many people entrusted me with their votes in this election.

"We fought a hard campaign and I am of course disappointed not to have won. However, it is the Liberal Democrats who are moving forward in this constituency and who will continue to campaign for local people."

During the campaign, both the Conservatives and SNP tried to suggest they had a chance of winning. However, the result showed yet again that Edinburgh North & Leith is a straight two horse race between Labour and the Liberal Democrats.
